Fertilisers and Specialty Chemicals

Challenges:

Waste streams generated by fertiliser and speciality

chemicals industries are currently not costed as

part of the primary product life cycle assessment.

This is likely to change in the near future as industry

focus and legal requirements shift to address product

stewardship and carbon border mechanisms.

With this evolving economic and political backdrop,

it is widely recognised that the fertiliser and chemical

industries are facing major challenges in reducing their

carbon footprint due to significant GHGs associated

with energy usage, as well as current raw material

utilisation, waste generation and disposal practices.

Our Capabilities:

  • Techno-economic and life cycle assessments of VAPs

  • Advice on selective extraction of valuable elements and minerals from solid, liquid and gaseous waste streams, generating values whilst simultaneously reducing the ecological impacts of waste and energy usage associated with waste management

  • Advice on the generation of VAPs from saline waste steams in the form of specialty green fertiliser formulations and mineral-based composites for diverse agricultural applications that include carbon dioxide and methane capture

  • Advice on downstream application of VAPs, including identification of local and regional markets
